Hi there!! My name is Angela, and I recently had my first brazilian wax. I’m here to tell you about it! So grab some popcorn and a glass of wine.
Like anyone who is getting their first brazilian wax done, I was obviously a little nervous – not so much about the getting naked part though. I’ve had two children and I’ve already shown my goodies to the whole world, so that didn’t bother me. Mostly I was concerned about the pain factor, especially in such a sensitive area of the body.
First of all, I showed up a day early (haha whoops), but luckily Maria was available and took me anyway! She was so great and reassuring, making sure I was comfortable. She starts out by applying powder to the hair. I thought that was interesting but didn’t ask why. Just a heads up for newbies out there.
Then she started torturing waxing me. I’m being dramatic, it wasn’t THAT bad. The first ::RIPPPP:: was a little bit of a shock, but I also remember thinking “Okay, that wasn’t horrible.” Maria started at the top of my hair, so I braced myself for more intense pain as she went. I waited, and waited. Every strip she removed felt the same – not fun, but not the worst pain I’ve ever felt. It was bearable.
As she moved along, I just knew it would get horrible.
And then it was over. “You’re all done! You can get dressed and meet me out front.”
It was fast, not horrible, and I was HAIR FREE. It was glorious.
The worst part, honestly, is the stinging that ensues after. Maria applied a lavender oil to help soothe the skin, but the stinging is inevitable. And it doesn’t last forever. The next morning I still had a smidge of pain, but nothing crazy. The following day I was able to exfoliate the skin without irritation (I was scared, I’ll be honest).
The BEST part is how nice and smooth my skin felt, and for so much longer than it does after shaving!! I am never going back to shaving. Waxing is the ONLY way, and frankly I want to get my entire body done. 😂
