Waxing the Male Genitalia. What’s the Deal?
Many moons ago I wrote a blog about the female and male Brazilian wax and what could be expected. I think it’s time to revisit that because since opening our new waxing studio in Lakeland, Florida we have seen an uptick in male clientele and believe me, we could not be more thrilled. We are equal opportunity waxers and are hopeful that we can make it not such a taboo thing for men.
As you may expect men are very nervous when coming in for the first time (just like women) and for the same reasons, but I think for other reasons also. Let’s face it, you’d have to live under a rock to not be aware of the #metoo movement. The main purpose of this blog is to put everyone at ease and to explain exactly what a male Brazilian wax entails and what you can expect. I’m going to answer the three most asked questions and those answers cover just about everything you’d want to know.
The Basics.
Let’s start with the basics. By our definition a male Brazilian wax is the process of removing all hair from the top of the pubic mound, the shaft, the testicles and the area between the cheeks, aka THE CRACK (read with giant exaggeration).
Erections happen.
The number one question we get asked about male waxing is, “what if I get an erection?” Our response is this: erections happen. I mean on a good day the penis has a mind of its’ own, forget about if it’s supposed to be unresponsive. The more you try to get it not to respond the more it’s going to prove you wrong. As a general rule the first couple of wax strips that get removed causes the erection to make a quick exit; it stays up less time than Punxsutawney Phil. So, stop worrying about your groundhog—we’ll get it waxed slick as a whistle. While we’re on this topic there’s this: please don’t try and get an erection because you think it will make it easier for us to wax you. It won’t and we don’t need that to successfully remove any hair that grows on the shaft. Also, if you do get an erection that is sustained and it becomes apparent to us that you are here for pleasure we will immediately stop the service, leave the room, have you pay for our time and tell you not to come back. We will also probably talk about you.
Balls?
Second question: “Uhhhh, do you wax my balls?” Yes, we do. They can be a challenge as they aren’t really a surface and can be a bit tender (we understand this) so we know how to hold the skin appropriately taut as to cause minimum discomfort. Sometimes you may need to help. We may ask you to hold your penis at a certain angle or put your hand here or there just to make the experience better for you and the job easier for us. Often times we will stand back and look at the situation to see which way we should approach it. Please don’t feel weird. We’re not puzzling over your anatomy or if you look different than the last guy. We’re just trying to figure out how your anatomy will be easiest to position to do the best job possible. Truth be told (and don’t let this hurt your feelings) we never remember from one time to the next what you look like. We’re not even paying attention to that. We’re trying to figure out how to get the hair out and not have you, the guy that’s attached to the hair, squeal.
The position.
Third question (and I’m sure you hope it’s the last) and this one is good for men and women: “Do I have to get on my hands and knees?” You do not have to assume that position. Part of a female or male Brazilian wax is waxing between the cheeks. It is easier for us to wax that area if you are on your hands and knees, but it can be a position that weirds people out so we have learned to wax you if you are flexible enough to raise your legs. You may find we leave more hair behind when we do it this way because we can only see so far when you are in that position. And we’re not really willing to stand on our heads to wax the crack of your butt. 😊
But don’t get creepy on us.
